You can usually see a marble tile in fine buildings, furniture, and other decorative art. However, marbles are porous and it is easily stained or carved by acidic substances, and that is why taking care of it requires extra effort.

To prevent soiling or staining the surface of a marble tile, it must be sealed with a coat of sealant. Aside from acid, alkaline solutions can also damage these tiles. If not properly sealed, it can absorb the solution making it weak and breaking the surface which leaves a rough surface. If, for some reason, the marble tiles are stained (by acids, oil, organic stains, or rust), here are some of the steps to follow to properly clean away the stain.

Acid Stains: Acidic substances include fruit juice and carbonated beverages. If one of these substances spilled, just wipe it immediately with a web cloth or mop.

Oil Stains: Oil stains may come from butter, hand creams, or lotions. If oil stained, spread surface with an absorbent fine powder like cornstarch. After a short while, brush off and reapply more powder. Leave for 24 hours. To remove the powder, scrub with a hot detergent solution or wipe with ammonia dampened cloth. Rinse and wipe dry.

Organic Stains: Organic stains may come from tea, coffee
, and textiles. To remove, get a wiping cloth soaked in 20% peroxide and add a few drops of ammonia.

Rust Stains: Rust comes from metallic items like lamps and metal containers. You can use commercial rust stain remover but remember not to leave it for too long since it is acidic in nature.

In general, you can clean marble tile with mopping. You can also use rugs and mats to minimize sand dirt and grits. Just make sure that underside of it is non-slip to prevent accidents.
